How to add a picture to the Google Group Title

Once you’ve created your Google Group, you can change the group’s appearance.

Adding a picture to the Title makes it easy to identify your group.

First, click “Group settings”
Photobucket

On the Group Settings Tab, click “Appearance”.  Here we can add a picture to the group.  (Hint: make sure the dimensions of the picture are square)

Click “Change”

Photobucket

Click “Browse” and then find your picture on your network or computer.

Photobucket

Click “Upload picture” (Hint: Keep the file name short and only use letters and numbers, no spaces – Google Groups has a hard time with complex file names)

Photobucket

Click “Save Changes”

Photobucket

Your group should now look like this:

Photobucket

If the picture doesn’t show up in the Title, you probably did not make a mistake. Sometimes, you have to load it again.

Click “Change”

Photobucket

Click “Select.”

Photobucket

Click “Save Changes.” This time it should work!

Tomorrow, I will show you how to change the groups font’s and colors.

  1. Agreed. Google must have disabled this feature. What a shame!

  2. Actually this does not seem to working anymore. The popup when you click “Change” no longer gives the option of uploading!
    Here’s a screenshot of what I see:

  3. Yes, this still works. Go to Group Settings (in the right bar) and the Appearance tab.

I think you need to be in the “classic old view” of Google Groups to
    do this.

** If you would like to set your default Groups experience to the old Google Groups interface, you can do so by opting out of the new interface. Simply go to the overview page of the new Groups interface at https://groups.google.com/forum/. Then click the “Switch to the new Groups” button. Once you receive confirmation that the new Groups is your default interface, you will also have the option to switch back to the old version.

  4. When I click on “change”, I’m not given the option to “browse”. Do I need to change a setting someplace?
