What is the best part of the National Conventions? For me, it’s listening to all of the insults flying back and forth between the parties.  It’s pretty entertaining.

Here’s my favorite so far … written by Maureen Dowd in the New York Times Opinions

“I’m telling you, man,” said one top Democrat, “it’s something about our party, the shtetl mentality.”

Really?  The “Shtetl Mentality”?

I looked it up.

shtetl (shttl, shttl)

n. pl. shtetls or shtet·lach (-lä)

Huh?  This required more investigation.  From the New York Times, SOUL-SEARCHING June 12, 1988

The ‘’shtetl mentality” is still part of the American Jew’s psyche, timid and fearful of repercussions.

OK - I added this to my list of insults.  If you are acting timid and fearful of repercussions, I might accuse you of having a Shtetl Mentality.  Watch for it!
