How much money would you have to be paid to risk your life and run into a burning building?
According to Payscale the average Fireman in the United States with 1-5 years experience makes $45,316. Hardly enough money to make you risk your life, right?
In an office environment, people have been known to grouch when they are asked to cover for a sick colleague. The grouching can quickly turn into an angry mob when tight deadlines approach.
Seems like it would be easier to get someone to work a few extra hours than it would be to get someone to run into a flaming inferno. But however logical it sounds, that presumption is wrong.
Of course, when I tried to discuss this with a certain cynic in our office, he said …
Have you seen their schedule? Firemen get 3 days on and 4 days off. They rarely get called for a fire. Mostly, they work out, cook, nap and clean the fire truck. I would be willing to run into the occasional flaming building in exchange for their schedule.
Cynics!!!
