Microsoft shortcut: Change “All Capital Text” to “Sentence Case”

I absolutely loathe re-typing text.  Occasionally someone will send text that is formatted strangely.  For example, someone might send a document that is formatted in all capital letters.  In order to use the document, the words need to be re-typed in proper format.

I am happy to report that Microsoft has a simple solution that saves me from re-typing.

In Microsoft Word, highlight the text, then select “Change Case” from the Format menu.

Then choose the radial button that reflects how you want the text to look after the conversion.

In Microsoft Excel, the “Proper” formula converts All Capital Text to Sentence case.  If the “All caps Text” is in cell B1, the formula is “=Proper(B1)“.

If you want to convert “Sentence Text” back to “All Caps”, use the formula “=Upper(B1)“.
