Split Windows in Microsoft Word

I frequently use the Split window function in Excel to view multiple parts of a worksheet at the same time.  Yesterday, I was working with a large word document.  I thought wistfully, “If only Word had a split function, like Excel …”

Then it dawned on me, Word probably did have a Split function and it probably worked just like Excel.  I clicked on the Window menu and there it was!

I clicked “Split”, and a bar appeared in the middle of screen.  I used my mouse to move it to the right place in my document and voila!  I had two windows that I could scroll through independently.  I was able to view the table of contents and the rest of the document at the same time.

When I was done, I doubled clicked the split bar and it disapeared.
