I have a list of rules to live by. Some day, I will publish the whole list, but for now … here’s Rule #3 - Watch what they DO, not what they SAY. This rule applies every day in business.
When choosing a presidential candidate apply rule #3 every time someone is talking. Each campaign says a lot of things that a rational person just can’t believe.

(1) For fun, watch the RNC convention goer in the lower right corner, he couldn’t even fake enthusiasm.

(2) Stop listening to the candidates when they try to convince us that they are like the average voter. Watch: the facts speak for themselves … the candidates are NOT like us.
McCain’s wife is a $100M heiress and together they own 8 houses worth over $13M. McCain and his wife file separate tax returns - McCain will not release his wife’s return (no transparency here!)
Obama made most of his money through book sales, was President of the Harvard Law Review and owns a $1.65M house.

So instead of voting for a candidate because he/she gives a great speech or because they have convinced us that they are just like us … why can’t we stop the madness and vote on the merits of their plans?
A good (though not exciting) election would be each candidate presenting a clear quantifiable plan, and agreeing to be managed based on the results. If the elected President wasn’t performing adequately vs. the plan, he/she would be replaced. Game Over. That way, we aren’t stuck for 4 years with an ineffective President.
Unfortunately, the plans that are presented in the campaign are very vague. In 4 years, when we re-visit these issues, there will only be brief mentions of broken promises. The rest of the time will be spent spinning issues like “lipstick on a pig or pit bull.”
