This is a big confession for me … I’ve worked in a high tech field since I was 25, but TiVo and the universal remote are STILL THE MOST TERRIFYING OBJECTS IN MY HOUSE. Seriously, the soundtrack from Psycho plays in my head every time I am home alone and confronted with these gadgets. I usually settle on reading a book.
However, if you are a TiVO enthusiast, check out PC magazine’s 10 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do.
1. Wish upon a list (build search queries)
2. Regroup your view (two hidden shortcuts)
3. Group episodes and go (play an entire folder of shows at once)
4. Increase your (remote) control (horror - the TiVo remote can me your Universal Remote)
5. Speed up the Trick Play bar (can’t wait 3 seconds for it to disappear? try this)
6. Use TiVo as your guide—to the future (check out the Live Guide)
7. Skip commercials in 30-second chunks. (an oldy but a goody)
8. Get a jump on your lists (another use for the advance button)
9. Use swivel search (generate a list of similar shows)
10. Automate your computer—and cell phone—transfers (use free TiVo desktop software)
Let me know how these work out for you …
