Vitamin B - the hang-over cure

PhotobucketWho knew?

I grew up in Chicago - at sea level - and never suffered from a hangover.  Now that I live in Colorado - a mile above sea level - drinking even 1 drink during the week can make for a nasty hangover the next day.

A friend shared his hang-over cure …  Take a vitamin B before you go to bed, and you will be symptom free by morning.  I’m happy to report that I tried it and it worked!

ehow reports:

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) calms your shaky nervous system, helps your weary body break down still-lurking alcohol, some Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) for your bloodshot eyes, some Vitamin B3 (Niacin) to break down the 3am pizza, some Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) for your cramping calves and some Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) to get your blood pumping.

  1. Without a good sleep no remedy will work. Sleeping is the best cure, and what’s more - it’s free for all If I happen to wake at night to visit a bathroom, I always drink a glass of pure water, with no vitamins or anything like that, just water. It prevents dehydration which is one of the worst hangover effects.

  2. B complex vitamins are reputed to help those with neurotransmitter imbalances (e.g., depression, some forms of ADD, etc.). They do not replace the normal pharmacological treatments, but enhance them.

It then stands to reason that B vitamins would help with the situation you’ve described.
