280slides.com more than just a web based presentation tool

I came across a great online presentation tool called 280slides.com. In a nutshell it’s completely online presentation software, think Google Docs has a one night stand with MS PowerPoint and 280Slides is the resultant love child. (Bow chicka wow wow) The site includes lots of nice built it themes, the ability to import from and save out to PowerPoint 2007 Format. And it also has secure online storage and the ability to publish presentations to their site, or embed a presentation on your own site.

But it’s really the things that differentiate it from PowerPoint that make it compelling:

  1. Embedded media search, so you can grab cool current media from sites like flickr and Youtube for your presentation.
  2. That this is a genuine desktop level quality user interface that is run completely in your browser! This part is really the cutting edge, no downloads no plugins; this is computing in the cloud without losing any of the fidelity or discrete functional resolution from the corresponding desktop experience.

For the Computer Science, and Human Computer Interaction nerds like me this feels like the first sparks of web 3.0; seamless integration between your desktop, applications, and browser.

  1. Brian,

I wish I could take credit for the humor … but it’s the guest bloggers who are making me laugh!

Brent Fontana works at Level 3 in Voice Services. He’s a great guy and lots of fun to work with.

    Happy Holidays!

  2. It seems the closer we get to the end of the year, the more humorous you become. Great tip though. Thanks
