I’ve received a lot of requests to show how to do powerpoint animations. These are fun and the possibilities are endless.
For example, at a sales kickoff meeting .. you may want to show the sales forecast for the next 4 quarters. You could show a chart:
Or you could show them an animated chart …
To create the animation, start by creating the chart:
- Insert, Chart
- Add a Title to the chart, by right clicking on the chart, then selecting Chart Options from the menu
- Add the the Chart Title, and click OK
Change the Scale, so that the change in each bar is more pronounced.
- Double click the Y Axis
- Change the scale minimum
Now your chart looks like this:
Now for the fun part … we will animate each bar.
First, Ungroup the chart (HINT: Make sure you are done editing … because the chart won’t work after you ungroup it)
- Right click on the chart, click Grouping, Ungroup
Repeat above step and your chart will look like this:
Next, you will want to regroup the bars. Because our chart is in 3D, you will want to group all 3 pieces.
- Hold the shift key, click on all 3 pieces.
- Use your mouse to right click, select Grouping, select Group
- Do this for each bar in the chart
Now, you are ready to animate …
- Hold the shift key and click on each bar
- Use your mouse to right click
- Select custom animation
- Click Add Effect
- Click Entrance
- Click Peek In (Hint: You can choose any effect .. click more effects to see them all)
Change the timing of the bars:
- Click on the down arrow
- Click Timing
- Select Start on Click … that way the presenter can talk before each bar’s animation
- Another option would be to select “Start After Previous”
- Delay: add a 1 second delay between the bar animations
Your chart is done … I saved this on the public Google Group: BusinessToolsBlog Shared Files if you want to check it out.
