Video Resumes, the Virtual Interview

The hiring process for new employees takes a lot of time.  For good reason, you want to hire someone who will be a great fit in your organization.

In tough economic times, candidates have started posting video resumes.  I think this is a great idea.  It saves the interviewer and the candidate time in the pre-screen process.

Check out the site that CareerBuilder is using for Video Resumes.

After watching a few video resumes, my advice is to remember you are not a professional actor.  Your tape should be natural and reflect exactly what the interviewer would see if you came in for an “in person” interview.  Thus, you shouldn’t read from notecards, or try to rhyme like Dr. Seuss.

  1. Maybe you guys wanna try posting your video resumes at a video posting site to get comments on it first… sort of like a trial an error thing. You can also win stuff!

  2. Think it’s great - I had this as a business idea a couple years ago - but with camcorders, web cams and you tube figured it was only a matter of time that people would be doing their own. Will be interesting to see how this evolves.
