Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference

My daughter is an alumni of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council and was fortunate to be invited to attend the Presidential Inauguration with the Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference (PYIC).

The program provides inaugural scholars with a unique experience as they take part in and share firsthand in the excitement and ceremony of the inauguration of the President and Vice President of the United States.

Alumni of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council and National Youth Leadership Forum are exclusively invited to attend private Inaugural Conference events and activities such as roundtable discussions with national journalists, meetings with congressional staff, and point/counter point debates with leading political experts, as well as special events with VIP’s. Inaugural Scholars also take part in the traditional ceremony of the inauguration itself, as they witness the official swearing-in of the President of the United States, and view the inaugural parade as the President, Vice President and their families make their way from the U.S. Capitol to the White House.

If you’d like to follow along with what the kids are up to, click on the PYIC Friends & Family link.

Highlights of the week include getting to hear keynote speeches from:

  • General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), Former Secretary of State and Founder of America’s Promise Alliance
  • Al Gore, Former Vice President of the United States and Nobel Prize Winner
  • Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize Winner and Human Rights Activist

  1. Erin, that is terrible news, I’ll bet your daughter was disappointed.

Chloe had a wonderful time. They had a nice reserved spot for the inauguration and she was able to get there with no problem. Her only complaint about the entire event was that she should have worn snow boots because her feet got cold.

She raved about the keynote speakers and really enjoyed the Reduced Shakespeare Company performance.

  2. Did your daughter actually get to see the inauguration. My daughter was part of JrPYIC and didn’t get to meet the astronauts because of time, did not get to see the inauguration because they could not get onto the mall and then she got lost when her group leader kept walking through the crowd and half the kids were unable to follow. Sad.
