Fast Excel Trick - Zoom or Fit Selection to Your Screen

When you are working in Microsoft Excel, it’s always best to have your numbers be as large as possible.  Because playing around with the Zoom feature is time consuming, you probably skip that step and spend all day squinting at your screen.

The Excel programmers were thinking about your eye health when they put in an auto zoom feature.  It allows you to highlight the working area of your spreadsheet, then auto-zoom (fit selection) to exactly the right percentage.

Just highlight the cells you will be working with in on your spreadsheet, then hold down the [ALT] button and click V, Z, F [Enter].

Or you can use the toolbar.  First highlight the cells you will be working in on your spreadsheet, the click View > Zoom > Fit Selection > Enter

  2. Just be careful, because some things don’t work exactly as expected if the zoom is other than 100. For example, if you’re using Excel 2003 or earlier, try this. Create an embedded chart on a worksheet. Set the zoom to 75. Copy the chart, select a cell, and paste it. The pasted chart is about 75% of the original’s size. Some programmer corrected for the zoom twice.

If you shift-click the chart to select the chart object (so it’s highlighted with white handles instead of black), it will paste the same size as the original regardless of zoom.
