The following, simple use of Conditional Formatting in Excel can be used to highlight a date in red, if the date is past due.
In this example, the Due Date is 4/15/2009, and any date after 4/15/2009 is past due. We want Excel to automatically highlight any date after 4/15/2009 in red.
Step 1: Using you mouse, highlight the range B4:B5
Step 2: On the Format menu, select Conditional Formatting
Step 3 : On the Conditional Formatting menu, select greater than the value in cell $B$1
Step 4 : On the Conditional Formatting menu, click the Format button, then on the Format Cells menu, select the color red on the Patterns tab and click OK
All past due dates will now be highlighted in red.
