Do you dread voicemail?

If it’s important, the best way to reach me is via email.  Why?  Because I get the email message on my blackberry and can respond immediately.  If you leave a message on my phone, I have to be somewhere where I can write your message down and then play phone tag with you until we connect.

There are a number of companies that offer a service that transcribes your Voicemail to text then sends it to you.  In a few years I’ll bet that these services become the standard, but for now if you want them you will be a pioneer.  The best part about these services is that you can forward the message to others and make sure that the call gets to the right person.

A company called CellScribe is in beta right now and you can sign up for free service until October 2009.  No catch if you choose to cancel the service after october 2009.  Their value proposition is that they use real people to transcribe your messages vs. other services that use voice recognition software.  They are charging $10/mo. for 80 transcribed voicemails + .25 for each message after 80.

The leader in this technology is Phonetag.com they are offerring a free 30 day trial, then their service costs $29.95 per month for unlimited messages.  They use voice recognition software to transcribe your messagres.

A compay called Jott is another company that offers a voice to text service.  They are currently offering a 7 day free trial, and $9.95 / month for 40 transcribed voicemails + .35 for each message after 40.
