I laughed when I heard this tip, but it worked. Think of it as our generation’s tinfoil on the TV antenna.
My wireless router is installed in the basement and the signal was pretty weak in the second floor bedrooms. A friend suggested that I buy a cookie sheet and curve it so that it resembles a satellite TV dish. (You can buy a really cheap tin sheet) Then place the sheet behind the router with the concave area facing the direction you want the signal to be amplified.
Another option is to line a salad bowl with tin foil and place behind the router with the concave area facing the direction you want the signal to be amplified.
The solution isn’t pretty but it works.
