My husband and son packed up the SUV and took our two yellow Labradors up to Steamboat for a camping/fishing trip. The house was Bedlam yesterday as they prepped for their trip … searched for fishing poles, sleeping bags and other items that have been packed away for months. I’m still recovering from the moment when I opened the produce drawer in the fridge and saw a container labeled BAIT. Aghhhhhhhhhh! Note to self … buy bleach!
But that was yesterday. Today was different. When I got home from work, the house was silent. Clean and peaceful. My 16 year old daughter was quietly studying in her room. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming! I poked my head in her room and asked her if she wanted to go to the movies. Minutes later we were sitting in the theater watching Julie and Julia.
The movie is based on Julie Powell’s blog The Julie/Julia Project. The movie follows Julie’s project … where she blogs about her passion - Julia Child’s French cooking … and butter. We all have our motivations for blogging. Julie’s motivation was to escape the drudgery of life as a Government “Drone”.
Meryl Streep was perfect in her role as Julia Child. She is an amazing actress. She portrayed Julia as a brave, adventurous woman who ignored critics and ultimately became a legend. We owe these women who were born in the early 1900’s so much. They started making changes that allowed women to enter the workforce and be near parity with men today.
The movie made us laugh out load, and inspired us. It showed how taking chances and working hard can change your life.
And while the movie is not a business tool, it’s worth a look. I was surprised at how much we both enjoyed it.
