Muphry’s Law

Murphry’s Law … and that’s not a typo.

John Bangsund of ThreePenny planet writes:

Muphry’s Law is the editorial application of the better-known Murphy’s Law. Muphry’s Law dictates that (a) if you write anything criticizing editing or proofreading, there will be a fault of some kind in what you have written; (b) if an author thanks you in a book for your editing or proofreading, there will be mistakes in the book; (c) the stronger the sentiment expressed in (a) and (b), the greater the fault; (d) any book devoted to editing or style will be internally inconsistent.

Interesting theory.  Must be karma for the grammar police.

Another fun fact.  There is league called the TEAL (Typo Eradication Advancement League).  They blog about finding typos on signs accross the country and fixing the typos ninja style … LOL!

  1. Hi Sandi, your blog is unique and useful to me as a resource, so thanks for your blog!!

Question: given capital availability for the telecom sector today, and specifically for last-mile broadband operators; what conditions need be present, in your view, for a typical CapEx investment of $5MM relative to hurdle rates on IRR and NPV given a 4 year period of enhancing EBITDA contribution at 60% on MRR, assuming cost of capital at 9%?

    Thanks! Ted

  2. Dear Sandi,

    I LOVE IT!!! Muphry!!!

I’m reminded that it’s no coincidence that Howard Schultz and Jim Donald don’t take themselves overly seriously. Starbucks is such a great company because its collective IQ, knowledge, and flexibility are off the charts!

But in the midst of the tough economy, there’s a lot of bashing and cynicism towards change, performance recognition and, inspirational efforts in the workplace. Just check any bar in lower Manhattan! It’s a shame.

As a VP leading over 100 salespeople, I’ve found that the hard fact is that QUALITY performance recognition works. Not just for morale, but in dollars. I have been using a
couple of different tools to help me retain good people and to inspire excellence in them, which = larger sales figures. A#1 tool is a personal, elegant recognition concept called Design Your Inspiration ( http://www.dyi.successories.com ) .
Intelligent, customizable with any words and/or great quotes you want to use (such as those on this very site!) All on framed, art photography prints.

Again, the quality of these, and the MEANING emparted, makes them highly effective for me. It has made an amazing difference! So while the cynics shed tears in their beers, we’re laughing all the way to the bank! Thanks again. Jim
